We cook everything separately in pans, so there won’t be cross contamination of fish and meat. – Josh (Claw Head Chef)

Shellfish specialist Claw is set to open its first restaurant today with a soft launch of 30% off food until Thursday this week (8-11).

Having previously traded at markets throughout London, and serving takeaways from its City Street Cafe in Finsbury Avenue, Claw has now found a home on Kingly Street in Soho.

Claw Carnaby Soho Crab Fish LondonSourcing its crab and lobster from Favis in Salcombe, trout from the chalk streams in Hampshire, and oysters from Colchester, the restaurant offers a diverse menu that’s quarter fish-based, quarter crab-based, a quarter meat-based, and a quarter veg-based.

Although the restaurant doesn’t currently cater for Halal, FtL has been informed that of the fish dishes available only the squid bolognese has alcohol in it.

Otherwise, Head Chef Josh has told FtL: “We don’t fry any meat in the same fryer as the fish, but there is shellfish and fish cross contamination in the fryer.

“We cook everything separately in pans, so there won’t be cross contamination of fish and meat.”

Serving up small plates of sustainable seafood, here’s some examples of what’s on the Claw menu:

  • Crab Claws prepared in a simple garlic and lime butter.
  • Crab Mac n Cheese with London Raclette and Hollandaise.
  • Grilled Colchester Oysters in Chilli Butter for £3.50 each.
  • Poke Trout with winter tomatoes, ricotta and horseradish.

And with veggie options that includes Cauliflower with Puffed Spelt and Tofu Yoghurt, there’s also a couple of relevant desserts too such as the intriguing Toasted Milk Parfait, Sour Toffee Gingersnap.
