Steak & Lounge Leicester Burger Abbey Road HMC

HMC-certified Steak & Lounge opens today in Leicester

Halal Status HMC-certified

A steak lounge in Leicester that will be serving a fusion of Indian and African cuisine, with a modern twist, will be having its grand opening today.

Located on Abbey Street opposite St Margaret’s bus station, Steak & Lounge boasts an elegantly chic interior, with a black and gold colour scheme, and huge opulent chandeliers.

The owners have said that “the decor has been influenced by the British Raj, whilst the menu combines a deep history of flavours rooted from India, and freshly grilled cooking inspired by African heritage – resulting in a fine dining experience like no other”, according to Leicester Mercury online.

With two floors and a capacity of 100, including a VIP area with its own water feature for families looking for privacy, the menu appears to be an exciting one too with starters that include Hakuna Matata Buffalo Wings and Beef Ribs.

But the main event is, of course, the “100% Angus beef” steaks which are sourced “from Scotland’s award-winning farmers matured for up to 28 days”.

Aside from the usual four cuts of Sirloin, Ribeye, Fillet (all 8oz) and a 12oz T-bone, there’s also a number of steak Sizzlers that includes a Surf & Turf as well as a Paneer.

In addition, there’s six burgers and an assortment of sliders too with the most exciting from the former being the signature Pulled Beef taken from slow cooked beef ribs off the bone, and The Nyumbani – a 7oz Angus beef or premium lamb patty with a variety of condiments.

Otherwise, if you’re after something special, then you might want to consider their Specials, which include:

  • Beef Ribs – a rack of beef ribs smothered in a secret homemade sauce.
  • The Rolls Royce of Seafood – American scallops, cooked with spinach, garlic, cream and cherry tomato, topped with melted cheese.
  • The Tomahawk – a 17oz Angus for “serious steak lovers” for £34.95

As for desserts, then these have been sourced from fellow Leicester business, Rebus Domes, and includes melting chocolate domes as well as smoking mocktails.

And an early review of the place appears to be a promising one too from Halal Facebook blogger Bungle Food Critic, who described the dine as a “very majestic dining experience” and the service as being “on point”.

While the Critic thought the Grilled Chicken burger to be “slightly bland and sweet as it was caramelized”, it’s the Nyumbani burger that “is the one to try”.

As for the Sirloin, which was requested well done, then this “was nice, not so much of a large portion, however is thick therefore definitely fills you up with home made chips [sic]”.

Finally, the trio of desserts – Ferrero Waffle, Waffle Monster and the Classic Cookie Dough – were said to be “absolutely amazing and value for money”.

Free parking is avaialbel at NCP car park when you dine at Steak & Lounge.

  • Not good at all.
I have been waiting for 2 hours and have to walked out without having food.
Also few people complaints about the food quality and service which is not acceptable.

  • Ordered a variety of steaks, chicken and prawns which all arrived considerably late, despite restraunt being half empty.

Upon arrival of the order the steaks were not cooked as requested neither was the order correct , this was flagged immediately, waited 45 minutes with the hope of order being rectified but disappointingly only to be given a lesson on steak cuts.

However the chef did promise to show is arsenal of steak, or sure how this was going to rectify the order but I guess one can give them top marks for effort (not)

The icing on the cake was when the alleged manager felt it was acceptable to wait 45 minutes for someone to come and give a steak lesson and not sure how this was going to resolve issue, as He thought the matter was dealt to his satisfaction he did compromise and gave a whopping £2.80 (yes two whole pounds and eighty pence) discount off the bill, which actually equated to 2%of the entire bill.

If you into below par steaks and crave poor customer satisfaction with dash of watered down mocktails then this is the place for you.

Happy steaking but I won’t be in rush to visit .S&L….ever

  • worst service I ever had, after numerous complaints the waitress was going back and forth being told what to say by the owner, (the staff were brilliant by the way, who dealt with it as professionally as they could) the owner and manager who by the way was sat a few tables away from us, did not have the decency to come and find out what the problem was, I had to tell the waitress to tell him to come and tell me himself his reply was the worst ever “we are trying to train the staff to gain skills with dealing with complaints, and as I do not know much about the steaks I will have the chef come out and explain it to you better” the chef was unable to resolve the issue as all he done was cook the food. we then asked the manager what he was going to do about the mistake to which he replied “nothing as you finished the food” yes I ate the food as if I waited almost 30 mins for you to come I would’ve not got any food at all! worst service ever! the manager thought if was perfectly acceptable to keep us waiting over 30 mins and then charge full price, he then thought he would knock off 10% on just 1 one the meals which I thought was not acceptable due to the fact everyone’s night was ruined as a result of the poor service and communication by the manager and the owner. told him to stuff his 10% and I’ll pay the full price if that’s all he has to offer.

  • Great decor, great food and great service, from starters to the sizzler, everything was spot on. Enjoyed the steak, and it was a generous portion. Would 100% recommend, and look forward to trying something different from the menu next time.

  • Came all the way from Birmingham as I was told this was going to be a proper steak house. Very very disappointed. Ordered Angus Rib Eye steak medium. The steak came nuked. Definitely was not Angus steak. There peppercorn sauce was like water. Very very disappointed. Ask the chef to come to my house I’ll teach them how to make steak and peppercorn sauce. Complained about the steaks all 4 of us ordered and not one was correct. Answer we got was next time we will get it right. THERE WONT BE A NEXT TIME. Worst steak house I’ve ever been too.

    DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY
