Masterchef Saliha & Michelin Star Atul Kochhar team up

This year’s Masterchef winner Saliha Mahmood-Ahmed continues her collaborative efforts with London’s top Indian chefs, this time with double Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar.

Inspired by her Kashmiri style of cooking, Saliha triumphed to become the 13th amateur chef champion to lift the title after beating 63 cooks.

She will now be collaborating with Atul to present a tasting menu early next year at Indian Essence in Bromley as part of the restaurant’s Chef Season.

Saliha announced on her Facebook page: “Few months back I was fortunate enough to visit Michelin starred Restaurant Benares @benaresofficial. I felt honoured to even taste such amazing dishes. Now am delighted to announce that I am teaming up with Twice Michelin-star[r]ed chef Atul Kochhar on Tues 30th January [16:00-22:00] as part of Chef Season at Indian Essence in Bromley! Really can’t wait!”

Fellow contestant, Imran Nathoo, who vied with Saliha to successfully reach the quarterfinals of Masterchef, congratulated the champion on Twitter: “Wow wow wow! This is immense! Go get em! So happy for you!”

Situated in the heart of Petts Wood, Indian Essence says it “showcases traditional Indian Cuisine with a pathbreaking menu that is sure to excite its discerning clientele, yet satisfy traditional palates”.

The restaurant has been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand three years in succession, 2015-2017, and was part of a large number of Indian eateries that have been recognised this year.

Having posted a Facebook Events post, Indian Essence said: “Chef Atul Kochhar is delighted to welcome masterchef winner 2017 Saliha Mahmood-Ahmed (Saliha Cooks) to Indian Essence on 30th January 2018 for his chef season.”

It added: “Atul and Saliha will collaborate on a tasting menu which will delight your senses and will be an evening to remember. Menu TBA soon.”

This is the second time Saliha has been involved in such a high profile collaboration having only last month teamed up with renowned Indian restaurant Talli Joe’s Executive Chef Sameer Taneja to create a stunning sharing feast in celebration of 70 years of India’s and Pakistan’s Independence.
