British Kebab Awards 2017 – And the winners are…

Winners were crowned and the mighty kebab honoured at yesterday’s 5th British Kebab Awards at the grand Park Plaza Westminster Hotel.

With 17 proud winners, the annual event celebrated the contribution of the UK’s kebab businesses to the British economy and the achievements of the hard-working people of the UK’s almost 50 year old industry.

Amidst the celebrations though, the event’s founder, Ibrahim Dogus, reportedly warned of “the uncertainty of the Brexit process” which he said was “damaging our economy and putting our SMEs, so vital to our society, at great risk”.

While Prime Minister, Theresa May, who has faced renewed criticism from anti-Brexiters for the way in which she’s handled Britain’s EU exit, also chimed in with her letter of support.

“I know that many outstanding chefs and restaurants have been nominated for this year’s Awards and I would like to offer them all my warm congratulations on their achievements.

“The Awards are a tremendous opportunity to celebrate the thriving British kebab industry, which continues to make an important contribution to the UK’s food and drink economy,” she wrote.

Launched in 2013, The British Kebab Awards was established by the Centre for Turkey Studies (CEFTUS).
