Trawler Trash Seafood Elevated in Islington
HALAL STATUS Seafood menu; alcohol in some dishes can be substituted upon requestA new seafood restaurant in Islington will be taking its cue from contemporary dining trends and plating up seasonal dishes from what’s known as the ‘trash’ of the trawler men – the fish and seafood that’s often overlooked in favour of the traditional catch.
Located at 205 Upper Street, Trawler Trash is a 50-cover eatery that’ll be honouring British, seasonal produce whilst keeping both lesser known fish, such as pilchards, coley, sprat, grey mullet and crayfish, and the environmental impact of irresponsible fishing at front of mind.
And with no freezers on site, Trawler Trash will only be serving fish delivered on the day, which is why it’s closed on Mondays – a day of rest for the trawler men.
While it preserves the charm of an iconic fish and chip shop, the place itself does have an open kitchen and a cocktail bar.
With George Notley behind the unique menu, the Executive Chef of the Fork & Blade group that’s also behind Covent Garden’s coffee house The Black Penny, and Fitzrovia’s Aegean-inspired restaurant Firedog, you can be sure to expect the following:
- Charred cuttlefish, kohlrabi, coriander dressing
- Air-dried charred octopus, green tomatoes, chilli
- White bait, panzanella
- Charred asparagus, tartare, crispy fish skin salt
- Kipper carbonara, peas, rocket, chilli
- Pan roasted hake, cauliflower, wild mushrooms, puy lentil vinaigrette
The restaurant has informed FtL that while some dishes do contain alcohol, e.g. toast beer battered coley, a substitute ingredient can be arranged upon request. Be sure to mention your Halal dietary requirements before putting in an order.
Currently on soft launch, with 50% off food until 11 May!
