Street Eats fully Halal, booze-free Food Festival

If you love innovative street food and a family-friendly and alcohol-free environment then Old Spitalfields Market is the place to be today.

Street Eats is a fully Halal setup that aims at creating a festival atmosphere without the need for all that booze so typical of today’s street food scene.

This two-day inaugural event, established by digital magazine Halal Gems, will be providing entertainment and games as well as a variety of scrumptious food vendors.

Among the curated set of traders tantalising taste-buds will be Indian Chit Chaat Chai and Rola Wala, Oli Baba’s Halloumi Fries, Khao London and Band of Burgers, who will be launching a new burger too.

In place of the alcohol, Hackney-based drinks specialist Square Root London are manning the bar.

And for dessert there’s Blu Top Ice Cream and Stacked Dutch Pancakes.

While entry is free (register here), donations are being encouraged for their partner Penny Appeal’s Feed Our World campaign.

With food poverty on the rise across and a record number of families going to food banks, the campaign aims at providing meals for people both in the UK and abroad.

The festival is also committed towards a zero-waste policy that will see all excess food being donated to local shelters.

Doors open very soon at 11am and the festival will continue today and tomorrow until 9.30pm.

Nearest Tube stations are Liverpool Street, Shoreditch High Street and Aldgate East, all around 5 minutes away, while paid parking is available on both Lamb Street (up to 4 hours) and around The Old Truman Brewery are.
