Sufra NW London interfaith walk to combat food poverty

A charity group in West London has organised a 10km interfaith walk tomorrow to encourage participants to raise sponsorship for its food bank.

At the same time, Sufra NW London aims at bringing together people of faith and no faith to raise awareness of a “common purpose in combatting food poverty in the local community”.

The walk will pass different places of worship and sites significant to the borough of Brent’s varied faith communities.

Receiveing no government or trust funds, the funds are essential in sustaining the food bank which costs £80,000 a year to operate.

“It is also important that our diverse community displays solidary with our neighbours who have fallen on hard times and cannot afford to buy basic household essentials.

“The walk will end with a vegetarian buffet on St. Raphael’s Edible Garden, our food growing project, which provides a therapeutic space for the vulnerable and horticulture training for children and adults,” the charity group said.

While a registration fee of £10 has been requested to cover the cost of a branded t-shirt and refreshments, participants that raise £99 in sponsorship (not including Gift Aid) in advance of the walk will have their registration fee refunded.
