London Eid Festival 2018 at Westfield, White City
What an inspiring day out it was to London’s White City and Europe’s largest shopping centre, Westfield, for the much anticipated London Eid Festival 2018.
After a month of spiritual rejuvenation and calorie-controlled intake, the organisers behind the renowned London Halal Food Festival put on quite an event with an amazing array of food stalls.
Unlike other street food festivals, such as last year’s Street Eats that suffered terribly from overcrowding, this one was far better organised allowing families the room and luxury to enjoy an event with a relaxed and chilled out vibe .
The only downside, and one should be addressed for next year’s, was the apparent lack of children’s entertainment.
With Grenfell Tower as a prominent landmark in the distance, it served as a poignant reminder to us all of the blessings we enjoy from day to day which we should never take for granted.
The Tariq Halal sponsored cookery theatre was in full swing too, with quite a sizeable crowd enjoying the sounds and smells.
The Great British Halal Chef was showcasing his cookery skills with a dessert made from premium non-alcoholic wine by Azanti.
The Halal Hangouts crew were doing what they do best – regaling the crowd with food stories and lots of banter – along with a lively burger-making competition.
In the end, what this London Eid Festival definitely succeeded in was providing a platform for people of all walks of life to come together and enjoy the very best of what the Muslim community has to offer.
The star of the show was this up and coming, fully Halal, London Smokehouse. Starting with a wood fire, it ended in providing us with a fully satisfied stomach.
The biggest queue was, however, at the German Sausages and Chips stall.
We have a feeling the smell of those fried onions not only did the trick, but also went down a treat with those jumbo sausages.
Chai Naasto, whose Hammersmith branch we reviewed only last year, made their street food debut.
Although we didn’t have the opportunity of sampling their produce, it did appear as though they were serving up restaurant standard food!
And then we had the usual suspects that included the likes of Churros Garcia, Band of Burgers, HS&Co, Abu Zaad, Rukhsanas, Angel Bay, and Chai Walla.
Here’s an overview of the food and drink stalls at this year’s festival, and don’t forget to let us know in the comments section below what you thought of it.
