Online Qurbani services for Eid al-Adha
With Eid al-Adha fast approaching on the 21st of this month, the race is on to secure a Qurbani with the least amount of hassle.
The timing of the annual celebration this year, however, has created a rather intractable sacrificial problem, which was recently highlighted by the Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC)
The food certification body said that due to “the severe winter” this year – dubbed “the beast from the east” – there was “considerable shortage of lamb … of an eligible age for Qurbani”.
Halal Exotic Meat also confirmed on Facebook that “there is a shortage in [the] market of Qurbani lambs as they need to be at least 6 months old in age and look heavy”.
The meat purveyors informed FtL yesterday that they had only two left in stock as a result.
But not to panic, for there are others who are providing an online service for Qurbani, and here’s four we’ve collated for you.
TARIQ HALAL
Old timers, Tariq Halal, who are still providing outstanding service, are further providing both Qurbani lamb and sheep.
The award-winning company is offering 15-18kg lamb for £169.99. They state: “If Eid is on Tuesday we will dispatch your Qurbani on Wednesday for delivery Thursday. Estimated delivery date will be 23-24th August 2018.”
The sheep costs the same price and will be delivered “2-4 days after Eid. Estimated delivery date will be 23-24th August 2018”.
SHAZANS
Shazans are proudly displaying their HMC-approved Qurbani lamb which, once butchered, weighs between 16-21kg.
While cheaper than Tariq Halal at £145, the meat is only available for pick-up from midday on 23rd August and from certain designated Tesco and Morriston stores.
Orders must be put in by 10pm Monday 20th August 2018 while stocks last.
HAJI BABA
Halal meat suppliers Haji Baba are offering Qurbani lamb and sheep for £160 each online, although no weight is specified for either.
It’s also worth noting that they’re taking Qurbani orders at selective Asda stores.
To find out which stores, you can call the head office on 0203 5388088.
MULLACO
Mullaco are the only online Qurbani service actually offering cow as an option, along with lamb and sheep, via “approved (unstunned) method of slaughter according to the Qur’an and Sunnah (HMC approved)”.
The “animal will be slaughtered after Eid Salah on the first day of Eid… last day for qurbani orders online is 2 days before eid day”.
While the cow part weighs around 30-40kg at £259.99, the lamb weighs an impressive 22kg at only £159.99, and the 27-35kg sheep £169.99.
