Noodle Oodle in Bayswater exceeds expectations
By Sabuhi Usmani
HALAL STATUS Fully HalalWe have been searching for an authentic Halal Chinese for sometime. So one fine day we spotted an all-Halal one by chance called Noodle Oodle in Bayswater on Queensway.
The restaurant had a simple yet welcoming interior. It was quite busy for 10pm which was a good sign, since we got seated immediately with our order taken within a few minutes.
We ordered a dim sum sharing platter for two as a starter, comprising of sesame toasts, fried prawn croquette, spring rolls and pandan chicken (chicken breast covered in batter covered in fragrant leaf and fried). We also wanted to try their hot and spicy soup.
Food started arriving almost immediately which was highly appreciated. Dim sum was crispy and delicious and I have never seen such big prawns on a sesame toast before! Hot and sour soup was exactly what it said on the menu – spicy soup with big chunky pieces of meat and prawns with bold flavours.
Seeing crispy aromatic duck on the menu got us excited as it is hard to get Halal crispy duck. So duck was a must for us and we ordered half-a-crispy duck for mains, crispy seafood noodles, honey BBQ chicken with plain rice and chicken in lemon sauce.
While we were enjoying our starters, our duck arrived. Our waitress shredded our duck for us and we started demolishing it straight away. Crispy duck came with wraps, hoisin sauce and cucumber and spring onion juliennes. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all five of us.
And as we were devouring the duck, the rest of the dishes came, with food portions being quite good and perfect for sharing. The crispy noodles came with big juicy prawns, and stir fried vegetables in a delicious sauce. The noodles were crunchy and the sauce simple yet flavoursome.
The honey BBQ chicken had a hint of sweetness to it, while the barbecued moist chicken with plain rice had just the right flavours, and was enjoyed equally by children and grown ups alike. As for the crispy lemon chicken in a sticky lemon sauce, then this went beautifully with the fried rice.
To be honest we didn’t have very high expectations from the restaurant and we went in with an open mind. But the place, as well as its food and service exceeded our expectations.
It is a perfect restaurant if you have children, as it is offers everything from hot and spicy to sweet and mild.
Noodle Oodle also does a Chinese speciality – hand pulled le mian noodles made fresh in the restaurant everyday.
Even though we didn’t get the chance to taste them on the day, the delicate authentic flavours of the food we have already tried makes you want to go back for their speciality; and we will definitely be returning for more.
