Khabib ‘Nurmagomedov’ burger KOs Birmingham
A Birmingham restauarant’s latest gourmet burger has become a best seller when customers unexpectedly renamed it after UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
With diners now referring to The Khabib burger as The Khabib ‘Nurmagomedov’ burger, French restaurant Me YOU told FtLion that “everyone loves it”.
But the fully Halal eatery on Ladypool Road clarified that the burger’s official name was never meant to be in reference to the now retired lightweight champion from Dagestan in Russia.
Instead Me YOU said that the name Khabib was derived from the popular Arabic idiom ‘khabibi’ or ‘habibi’, meaning ‘my love’ or ‘beloved’, and was meant to signify one’s love for the burger.
The burger was created by restaurant Chef Goldzach, who Me YOU said had worked under Yannick Alléno and at such prestigious places as legendary chef Alain Ducasse’s Le Meurice in Paris, with both French chefs boasting three Michelin stars.
Under the expertise of a chef who “knows how to make the ingredients fit together”, The Khabib comprises a “special grilled beef patty 90g and our French chef’s special grilled chicken” before theatrically being set alight with “our homemade fire sauce”.
The 80-cover restaurant, which in response to Covid restrictions only caters for 20 customers at the moment, released The Khabib burger in October for just £9.95.
The restaurant, which launched just five months ago, currently enjoys a near-perfect 4.9/5 stars on Google after 670 reviews.
