Oxford Homeless Project food appeal for Ramadan hampers
A community group in Oxford has appealed for the contribution of items to fill food hampers intended for families struggling in Ramadan.
The Oxford Homeless Project is also raising money to deliver iftar hampers to 100 needy families across East Oxford.
“To spread the blessings of RAMADAN we will be delivering 100 IFTAR HAMPERS to our friends and families facing hardship in EAST OXFORD,” the charity announced on its Facebook page.
Having provided over 1,200 itfar meals across the city last year, it has launched a crowd funding page to raise £3,000: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/oxfordhamperproject.
Oxford Homeless Project is requesting the following food items: basmati rice (2kg, 5kg, 10kg); flour (Atta for chapatis and self raising/plain); sugar; oil; tinned tomatoes; tinned chickpeas; tinned fruit; dates; sweet treats and desserts and other Ramadan treats.
“Ramadan is a month of giving and feeding people. As the month of Ramadan approaches we want to support individuals and families who are continuing to struggle. …
“This year we want to provide individuals and families with core food ingredients so they can cook and feed their families for longer,” the charity said.
Starting on April 12 and lasting for 30 days, Ramadan is a time for giving, introspection, self-sacrifice, and plenty of prayer and other good deeds.
