While you may be hard-pressed to find a fully Halal restaurant that serves authentic Chinese cuisine in London, try finding one that’s also HMC certified.
Well Mr Wong’s Wok & Box will be fulfilling all the above and some when it launches tomorrow in east London’s Stepney Green.
This beautifully decorated, fully Halal, HMC-certified restaurant will be launching at noon on the long stretch of Mile End Road.
With a magnificent canvas of the Great Wall of China proudly dominating an elegantly designed interior for 30 guests, a private dining room with sumptious seating will also be located downstairs for an additional 33.
Diners will be able to enjoy fantastic views into a large open-kitchen that’s led by the chef himself, Mr Wong, who originally hails from China and boasts over three decades of restaurant experience.
And with specially trained chefs designated to preparing freshly made rice and noodles, expect plenty of franatic excitement, lots of wok action, and a fast turnover of food.
The new brand is already supporting community initiatives too including having recently become proud sponsors of The Queen Mary Chinese Society and its hockey team as well as the local 7- and 11-a-side football teams.
“We strongly believe in connecting with our local surroundings not just by food. That, in its essence, is what we are all about here,” Mr Wong’s Wok & Box told FtLion.

Mr Wong delivers on the magic of the ‘Wok Hei’
What makes Mr Wong’s stand out from the crowd is the expertise with which the magical cooking technique of ‘wok hei’, or the ‘breath of a wok’, will be used to deliver its authentic Chinese cuisine.
The menu’s concept involves an exciting 3-step process towards creating a bespoke meal box, that’s immediately cooked to order by Mr Wong and his skillful entourage using a large bowl-shaped Chinese pan called a wok.
It begins with the first step that requires choosing: 1) a base of either rice or noodles (normal or whole grain); 2) then beef, chicken, king prawn, shrimps, or mix veg; 3) and finally, the spice-level ranging from ‘plain’ to ‘extreme’.

There’s a variety of mouth-watering appetisers too such as Salt & Pepper or Korean BBQ Chicken Wings; Burnt Chilli, Sweet & Sour, or Dynamite Chicken; Crispy Chilli or Mongolian Beef; and Salt & Pepper or Dynamite Prawns.

In fact, food blogger Halal Hunt, while describing their “excellent menu” as being “value for money dishes”, recently declared his personal favourites to be the dynamite prawns and chicken, with chicken fried rice, and Mongolian beef.
Sides are available with a trio of fries like Wong’s Fiery Fries, as well as Veg Spring Rolls, Egg Fried Rice, and Chow Mein, among other choices.
While committed to serving quality dishes at affordable prices, the restaurant will also be complimenting its small menu with seasonal offerings and limited edition items throughout the year.
Having partnered with Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats, the new wok on the block will be making home delivery available within the area very soon.
