‘Amazing’ La Palma Italian restaurant in Iver Heath – Rehan
HALAL STATUS Halal chicken • Alcohol servedMy wife, daughter and I went to leafy Iver to try an Italian restaurant that I had wanted to go to for a long time as its reviews are brilliant.
La Palma Italian Restaurant was opened by Salvo Marchese around eight years ago and has quickly built a solid reputation. As many of you may know, I love Italian food and am always on the look out for new places.
We booked and went at 19:30. La Palma is a loud restaurant and has a busy but happy vibe. We were so hungry!
Here is where Salvo was clearly passionate about quality. The white bait, Salvo says, wasn’t that good today at Billingsgate Fish Market and so he swapped it for fresh scampi.
Either way, for us the starters were very high quality. You can always tell a good restaurant from a mediocre one from the quality of its ingredients; and La Palma does not compromise.
For mains, we had pan fried sea bass with a tomato and porcini mushroom sauce with spinach and roast potatoes.
Oh God, it was superb but those potatoes and the sauce stood out with top marks. My wife had spaghetti gamberoni but swapped the spaghetti for penne. The penne and its sauce was cooked al dente and the sauce I could write an essay about itself.
There’s always room for dessert. And so we ordered fresh lemon cheese cake (not baked) and profiteroles, with little Maryam having a scoop of Italian strawberry ice cream.
Once again, clearly fresh ingredients with emphasis on quality. What an amazing, blessed night 15 minutes from our home.
Salvo said when we booked that only the chicken was all Halal. But for those requiring Halal, they can cook any dish, fresh to order, without wine and alcohol in the sauces.
£90 for all including service – perfect. As a family, God willing we will be back.
