While there’s a number of restaurants across London that offer these alluring dishes, there’s one, with almost 40 years of experience, that recently made its big UK debut.
Yoko Sizzlers has the distinguished honour of being amongst the oldest restaurant brands in the world to specialise exclusively in the art of sizzling.
Serving their first in India’s Mumbai back in 1986, today the franchise boasts over a dozen restaurants across the country, with an additional three – two in Dubai and one in Qatar – launched in the Middle East at the turn of the millenium.
Earlier this year in July, Yoko Sizzlers opened an impressive, 84-cover, fully Halal restaurant in north London’s Stanmore, with comfy boothed-seating complimented by tasteful neon lighting to create a relaxed ambience.
As part of their commitment towards providing a seamless dining experience, free parking has also been made available at the top level of the adjacent Sainsbury’s car park (non-hatched bays), with car number plates required to be registered with a member of staff immediately upon arrival.
Yoko Sizzlers’ simple yet tasty no-frills food does the talking
The secret behind Yoko’s unprecedented success, says the UK branch’s director Mohsin Rizvi, is simple, no frills, fresh food that’s allowed to speak for itself.
This means that not only do they produce some fantastic inhouse sauces that are worth travelling for alone, but also maintain high standards of freshness with produce being procured on a daily basis.
What makes Yoko’s large selection of sizzlers so exciting is the sheer variety of combinations that will have you coming back time and time again.
Aside from the chicken, steak and mutton, there’s also seafood to consider in the form of fillets of white fish and prawns, as well as thick chunks of paneer cheese.
What’s more, in addition to the following customisable mix of vegetables to choose from: carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, french beans, green peas, spinach and sliced tomato; the choice of fries, seasoned rice, and even spaghetti makes ordering your sizzler an intriguing affair.
In actuality, this initial stage is all part of Yoko’s carefully conceived dining experience, which includes a playful wordsearch puzzle that will leave diners scratching their heads while waiting for their orders to arrive.
Take their above Sizzling Chicken as an example, where a boneless butterflied chicken is grilled on a high heat to ensure a succulently tender finish, before being covered in a velvety smooth, mildly spiced sauce which helps compliment rather than smother the quality of the poultry.
So good is the sauce, in fact, that it serves as the driving force in bringing this entire dish together, with plenty of fries and an assortment of veggies all soaked in the juices of the chicken resting on top.
But it isn’t all about the protein, because Yoko’s vegetarian sizzlers are just as epic, with the Italian-inspired Veg Spachees showcasing just how strong their all-round game is.
What will make this stand out from the crowd isn’t just the spaghetti base, nor is it the fried crispy potato cutlet that’s been subtly spiced, but the mellow tomato bolognese sauce poured over the surroundings followed by plenty of melted cheddar cheese.
When you have paneer that strikes the perfect balance between being firm enough without being overly soft, you know the restaurant knows what it’s doing.
In the case of this Paneer Exotica, the silky smooth cheese was accompanied by a melange of ingredients, that included long-grained Basmati rice, which were cooked in a delicately spiced stock to add that extra depth, along with red and yellow bell peppers, broccoli, and pok choy; all completed by a finger-licking garlic sauce.
And, of course, being specialists in the art of sizzlers, no meal can be deemed complete without the mandatory serving of the legendary Sizzling Brownie.
In the case of Yoko Sizzlers, however, they are one of original pioneers behind the introduction of this classic dessert to the city of Bombay in the 80’s.
A luscious sizzler that juxtaposes the cold with the spitting hot to ensure a truly luxurious conclusion to an astounding restaurant experience.
