Imran Hameed made an appeal on his popular Instagram channel Bearded Broz for food to be urgently donated to Salma Food Bank in Sandwell’s Smethwick.
Posting a sobering video titled ‘Reality Check UK 2023’, he is seen speaking to an “old and very fragile” mother of four that has travelled 9-miles to pick up basic food staples.
He further revealed that with winter fast approaching, his food bank will be under severe pressure to meet the needs of his community.
“Coming into a cold spell, that’s going to have a massive impact on the food bank itself, because I know so many people who use our service just because they’ve had to put the gas on, they’ve had to put the central heating on, and they’ve run out of money.
“It’s either warm the house or eat. It’s as simple as that… [If] you’re in that situation, what do you do?” Imran asks.
“This is the reality of what we have become, just trying to survive for a lot of people is just to[o] much now,” he says, adding: “We are seeing more and more people using us, their situations getting dire by the month. Help us by donating food: text 07767164246.”
Having founded Salma Food Bank in memory of his mother Salma Parveen in 2016, who died when he was only 17, Imran has gone on to establish the multi-award winning social media channel Bearded Broz.
Using this platform to raise vital social awareness for his community, he is also known for posting engaging food reviews of Halal restaurants across the UK on his Youtube channel by the same name.
