Award-winning Bun & Sum at the top of the UK’s Halal burger scene
SPONSORED CONTENT HALAL STATUS Fully HalalFresh off the back of winning one of the most prestigious burger awards, Bun & Sum are now leading the way when it comes to the UK’s Halal burger scene.
Only last month, the brand’s owner Farbez Uddin was crowned the country’s ‘Best Chef of the Year’ at the National Burger Awards.
And to top off a memorable start to 2024, he successfully opened his second east London branch to plenty of hype and fanfare only a week later.
Cosily accommodating upto 16 diners, this new venue isn’t just located in the heart of Hackney, but is conveniently situated directly adjacent to Hackney tube station.
Burgers that won them the National Burger Awards 2024
Bun & Sum are renowned for expertly smoking their pastrami (12 hours) and ribs using an onsite smoking apparatus at their first branch in London’s Bow Triangle Business Centre.
But what secured them this year’s coveted prize are two burgers, one of which was created literally ad hoc during the course of the competition.
After being handed a ‘blind box’ with limited ingredients, Farbez utilised his experience and inventive instincts to create the Green Chilli Cheeseburger comprising of two 2oz smashed patties, American cheese, fresh jalapeno, caramelised onions, and a house fire sauce.
The other burger that propelled him towards becoming ‘Chef of the Year’ is the Motz, which has been named after the famous American foodie, George Motz.
This sandwich has thinly-sliced onions perfectly smashed into a pair of 2oz beef patties, before being covered in piquant American cheese.
One final burger that requires mention as a matter of priority is the newly-introduced Bow Dip, which pays homage to the brand’s first site in London’s Bow.
This particular one has become the go-to burger for influencers and burger aficionados thanks to the accompanying bowl of Beef Au Jus.
In short, you have a gravy dip that’s used for dunking a burger made up of two smashed patties and deliciously tender slices of 12-hour smoked brisket to deliver the ultimate umami-flavoured taste sensation.
If that wasn’t enough, Bun & Sum are not only preparing to open branches in both Camden and Whitechapel after Ramadan, but Fabrez has revealed that these will be “a little different to your usual Halal burger joint”.
Burger enthusiasts might also like to know that the brand has introduced a new loyalty scheme where a free burger meal can be earned after every 6th order (instore and online orders only).
