‘Boycotted’ Pizza Hut rollout 12 Halal ‘trial’ stores across UK
International franchise Pizza Hut has announced that it is trialling a fully Halal kitchen across 12 of its UK branches.
The brand said on its website that it is “responding to changing consumer demand and making sure each of our Huts offers menu items which cater for their local community”.
This means that all pork items have been substituted for Halal-certified ingredients such as seasoned beef, beef pepperoni, turkey, chicken topping, and beef bacon.
Pizza Hut said that not only have all the trial sites “been deep-cleaned, old stock has been moved and replenished with our halal compliant menu items”, but also confirmed that its “meat supplier has been accredited by… the Islamic Foundation of Ireland (IFI)”.
Calls to boycott the company were made by consumers earlier this year after the chain’s Instagram account reportedly posted a story of its pizza boxes being handed to Israeli soldiers.
In response, advocacy groups are stating that Pizza Hut be boycotted for supporting Israel’s continued massacre of the people of Palestine.
While Pizza Hut first arrived to the UK in 1973, the 12 stores currently under trial are: Edgbaston • High Wycombe • Ponders End • Pollokshields • Bethnal Green • Southall • Arndale Shopping Centre (Express) • Barking • East Ham • Forest Gate • Otley Road • Kings Heath.
