Luxury Indian cuisine at Akshaya ‘The Picture Dome’ in Liverpool
SPONSORED CONTENT HALAL STATUS Fully Halal food menu • Alcohol servedThere’s two reasons why the restaurant, Akshaya ‘The Picture Dome’, requires being featured on any food tour of Liverpool.
The first involves the history surrounding this domed edifice, which was constructed way back in 1910 as Liverpool’s very first purpose-built cinema.
In homage to its heritage, Akshaya chose to adopt the cinema’s original name of ‘The Picture Dome’ when taking over the site in 2008.
The second includes the sheer grandeur and splendour of the place, with no obvious expenses spared in transforming this place into the popular destination spot it has become in Kensington.
With its interior exuding style and prestige, with green foliage and blossom trees extending across the main dining room, and a giant fish tank the main focal point, Akshaya offers two private dining rooms for around 40 guests each.
And while the ground floor can easily cater for upto 200 diners, there’s also a private hall available for hire upstairs for 100 guests, as well as free onsite parking space for about 35 vehicles for those dining in.
Specialising in South Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine, not only does Akshaya currently boast a 4/5 rating on Tripadvisor, but an even more impressive 4.5/5 on Google Reviews.
It should also be noted that, given the size of the premises, the site has rooms that are located entirely separately from the room that houses the alcohol bar.
In fact, the success of this brand recently saw it also open up a second restaurant not too far north in Southport called JT Akshaya.
Akshaya delivers a menu worthy of its opulence
Akshaya’s menu is just as exciting as the restaurant’s aethetics with cuisine that actually goes beyond the south of India and Sri Lanka to encompass both North India and Indo-Chinese.
They offer a variety of tandoori starters, with one of their popular items being the moist and delicious Char-Grilled King Prawns which are marinated overnight in a special blend of spices.
Moving on to their mains, then be certain to begin with the Akshaya Signature Dum Biryani, which can be had with vegetables, chicken, or lamb, and is accompanied by a side serving of raita and gravy.
Topped with a crispy garnish of fried onions, this fragrant rice dish represents the attention to detail to which this brand adheres to, with the delicate blend of herbs and spices beautifully adjudged.
You might also want to seriously consider the slow-cooked Lamb Shank, which is always a hit with diners given the home-ground spices used in driving the flavours therein.
With the lamb coming apart effortlessly, and the viscous curry sauce enveloping its exterior, this luscious item deserves a portion of freshly-made tandoor naans.
Akshaya are also known for their curries, such as the vibrant looking Prawns Moilee, which is medium spiced, and a popular South Indian style dish.
And though there’s nothing quite like a curry driven by that distinct aroma of prawns, if you’re looking for a chicken based one though, then don’t forget the robust flavours of the Chicken Chettinad.
What makes this South Indian curry a staple choice is how it’s cooked, with roasted coconut and spices to underscore its depth of flavour, and which can be enjoyed with both rice and bread.
As can be seen, Akshaya does not just look the part, but delivers a menu worthy of its opulence, with delivery available through Just Eat and Uber Eats.
