Halal at The Pavilion’s street food market in London Uxbridge
By Aku Fu
During a short trip to the outskirts of London to get some balloons, we found a small ‘end of year’ market on Uxbridge High Street opposite The Pavilion shopping center.
Happily, the first three stalls we walked past had Halal signs with the first being Thai, and the second a doner and chicken stall that had large pieces of raw chicken being cooked on a giant circular pan.
Further up, there was a paella stand with enticing, sizzling seafood paella that is a rare sight for these shores.
With a quick circumambulation, we also saw pancakes and churros, and other possibly less relevant sausage and burger places.
Although not particularly hungry, we couldn’t help but find ourselves eventually at all three stands, trying a chicken paella, mixed doner wrap, and a Thai green curry with noodles.
The seafood paella looked a bit more appealing; but having a mild allergy to prawns, I tried the other.
The paella was fine; al dente risotto style rice, with flavoursome tomato-hinted broth and chicken pieces.
Doner was nice, but overcooked; and the Thai green curry I was told was good (though the taster does have a habit of liking everything).
All in all, the atmosphere was pleasantly very busy, with lots of hustle and bustle and end of year cheer.
Generally this shopping area is worth a visit; and this little ad hoc market, which I was told will last till the New Year, adds a cherry on top.
