Nigerian Alhaji Suya takeaway opens in Peckham
HALAL STATUS Fully HalalA Nigerian grill house that specialises in the popular West African food item Suya opened in Peckham last month.
Alhaji Suya is mainly a takeaway place, with limited seating for five, that’s named after a type of skewered shish kebab that’s expertly spiced and grilled on an open flame.
The eatery is the ongoing endeavours of Nigerian Abdullahi Mai Kano who, after relocating his popup stall from Stratford Broadway to Canning Town before its sudden closure, has now setup shop on Peckham Park Road.
While Suya is said to have originated with the Hausa people of northern Nigeria and Niger, another one of their equally popular dishes is the Kilishi – a spicy beef jerky.
Aside from beef, lamb and chicken suya, Alhaji Suya also does lamb and chicken shawarma.
But don’t overlook its variety of sides and extras that include jollof rice, masa, indomie, yamrita (fried yam and egg), as well as tozo and chicken gizzard.
Watch out though for the ‘Alhaji Special’ that consists of beef, lamb, tozo and gizzard for £24.99!
While Abdullahi is also a wholesale and retail supplier, his suya business is available for event hire too.
