Is BIM’S the best Halal McDonald’s around?
By Abdullah Khan
Having tried practically ever other Halal McDonald’s rip-offs and been disappointed every time, I found myself venturing to Ilford (at last) to try BIM’s.
Now, finding this place is not easy, as it is at the end of all the shops and a bit further still. I went in, of course, with no expectations of good food.
Although the fast food restaurant was virtually empty, and that too on a Saturday, the deliveries were buzzing out.
Turning out nice and hot, we got our order quick-time, with the whole setup smacking of quality fast food.
I ordered fries and can say that these are the best French fries known to mankind. These are easily comparable to McDonald’s fries, but better, being ultra crispy and holding it’s shape for a longer period. Well done BIM’S. First box ticked.
One has to try the cheapest burger, which was the cheeseburger, and which turned out to be very good.
The bread to meat ratio was perfect. The ketchup and one humble slice of pickle gave it the sharp edge it needed.
Even the meat tasted better then the other Halal McDonald’s competition. Next time I’ll try the double or triple stacked burger.
As for their fish burger, then I was told that it was a new recipe. Tthe old one, like the other Halal McDonald’s, probably couldn’t get the tarter sauce right. This new one though makes use of chilli sauce! It also came with tomato.
It was excellent – big fish piece with a replica steamed bun as McDonald’s do it. This fish burger can swim in it’s own league. The quality and taste of this burger totally surprised me.
The all-important Tower Burger a la ‘Big Mac’. While this was a good one, there were some obvious flaws.
Yes, there will be a lot of bread so the thin meat does get lost in translation. There was way too much lettuce. You can’t taste any sauce; and we all know the burger sauce needs that zing in your mouth with every bite.
The pickle was hardly noticeable with all that bread and lettuce. Room for improvement. But still, one of the better Halal Big Macs around. Far better than Burger Base which is down the road.
BIM’s has priced itself in the same league as McDonald’s. So while a single burger is totally overpriced, an upgrade meal is the better value option.
If you like McDonald’s, then I’d say that this is a great alternative and by far the best Halal version around.
I would definitely be going back. Please BIM’s come further towards west London, so we can all enjoy this. And why not charge a little extra and have a gourmet burger option. This thin patty is not for everyone. Overall 4/5.
