British Curry Awards 2021 winners announced
The winners of the 17th annual British Curry Awards have just been announced with a number of notable Halal-friendly businesses taking top honours.
The industry’s “Curry Oscars” is honouring the UK’s finest curry establishments this evening at the Battersea Park Evolution in London.
The annual gala dinner celebration has seen 10 regional winners announced including a number of renowned heavyweights.
Benares in Mayfair, which recently won back its Michelin star thanks to Executive Chef Sameer Taneja, was recognised as ‘Best in Central London’.
While Benares’ former chef-patron Atul Kochhar won his second award in two years after his latest restaurant Mathura (rated 4.5/5 by FtLion last week) was named ‘Best Newcomer’.
Last year, the double Michelin chef’s fine dining establishment Kanishka (rated 4.5/5 by FtLion in 2019), also in Mayfair, won ‘Best Restaurant in London’.
There was also awards for Mumtaz in Bradford for ‘Best in the North East’ as well as Dishoom whose restaurant won the ‘Best in Scotland’ award.
Their British Curry Awards’ website revealed that this year’s competition has “received a record number of public nominations with many fantastic restaurants participating after a difficult year”.
