A Burger Drop co-founder has launched a new doner kebab concept in Newcastle upon Tyne this month.
Hasan Hamad has launched 25-cover This Is Doner on Westgate Road after reportedly researching different kebab forms in Germany and Turkey.
“We’re huge fans of doner, but we’ve always felt the UK market has missed the mark when it comes to quality,” Hamad is reported to have said.
“Doner should not just be for a night out or when you’re drunk. In places like Turkey and Germany, it’s a go-to meal, just like a burger here in the UK. The problem with the UK doner market is that many operators prioritise profit over quality, leading to sub-par experiences. That’s what we wanted to change.”
They menu is a small one and currently offers just a Gemuse Kebab and Turkish Doner, one side, and a dessert.
