South African Calisto’s to make international debut in Leicester

A South African-based Portuguese restaurant brand will be opening its first international site in the UK soon.
Calisto’s is preparing to launch in Leicester’s historic Regency Hotel on London Road, Leicestershire Live has reported.
Said to be offering a fully Halal menu, they are known for using 50 different sauces, marinades and spices, with dishes that include flame-grilled Portuguese chicken and peri-peri prawns.
Having first been established by founder Jorge Calisto in 1992, and Nicholas Binos joining in 2011, Calisto’s now has 11 branches across the Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal provinces of South Africa.
While they are reportedly looking to open in Dubai’s Motor City as well, their UK opening may be followed by the launch of another South African peri peri franchise called Galito’s, which operates in 19 countries and is closing in on its 300th site.
