Cambridge Gourmet Grill – Cambridgeshire
This place is now serving curries along with burgers and grilled food
HALAL STATUS Fully HalalCambridge Gourmet Grill has been open a year and has big plans too.
They’ve gone all out to give their diners that promised gourmet experience by investing in a Josper grill.
This 40-cover venue is simply decorated, with cushioned high seating, barrel designed chairs, and warm lighting that gives the place a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
More importantly, all their meat is sourced from HMC-approved suppliers.
GRILLS
Strongly marinated in a tandoori spice, these lamb chops (5 per portion) were large, meaty, and accompanied by fries and some greens.
While they certainly tastied rather good, they were sadly over done. And at £9.99, and that too in Cambridge, it was a tad pricey.
This half grilled skin-on chicken was firstly steam cooked, before being based in a viscous peri peri marination, and flame grilled.
The result: a bird that fell apart beautifully, with flesh that was as moist and as tender as you’d like.
To accompany this tasty chicken, we opted for hot sauce, though lemon & herb is also available.
In addition, it also comes with either fries or fragrant rice, and all at a reasonable £5.99.
A generous portion of quality boneless chicken bites – actually more than just bites if we’re honest – is what made up the kid’s meal.
The crispy fries were great too and available with the following sauces:
The accompanying sauces come with the above grills; the best one being the peri peri.
BURGERS
Granted this isn’t the most attractive looking burger we’ve ever had, but given that this 1/2lb was their signature, we had to give it a go.
And though this isn’t going to win the most innovative burger award any time soom, it was decently executed and, more importantly, tasted good, with the patty being well spiced.
The intense heat of the Jopser grill also played its part by successfully sealing in the juices while providing a crispy exterior, and thus some texture.
We were told, however, that they’d be changing the overly crispy bun with a brioche variety, as well as introducing a 4oz student meal for £6.99.
PIZZAS
This handmade thin crust pizza had a great, premium taste about it.
Fresh ingredients, including mozzarella cheese, accounted for its quality. It’s also a huge pizza!
SIDES
It has to be said, this restaurant is certainly generous with its portion sizes (London restaurants pay attention!).
A bowl of mixed salad that could even be shared between four with other meals.
This Goat Cheese Moroccan Salad was a far better option, with plenty of goat’s cheese and pomegranate seeds.
The tangy sauce will be needed to counter the sharpness of the slaw.
DRINKS
Pure apple juice; what more could you ask for?
All as expected, except that at £4.50 per bottle, we’re wondering about their mark up. Again, very generous!
DESSERTS
Unfortunately we went on a bank holiday so parts of the menu where not available, including the desserts.
Branded ice cream and one of the best around.
The Double Cream option was super creamy and had a smooth, silky texture you won’t encounter very often. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The good thing about them is their generosity. With large portions, the food is wholesome, hearty and tasty, and relatively affordable too.
They also seem to be super ambitious given both their investment in a Josper grill, and their very own Android app, which offers even more savings.
Drink - Apple Juice
Main - Chicken Grill
Dessert - Mövenpick Ice Cream
