Chokhi Dhani London ‘Halal’ fine dining launches tomorrow
HALAL STATUS • Halal chicken, lamb & rabbit • Prepped & cooked separately • Alcohol servedA formidable group of chefs will be heading the menu at London’s latest fine dining Indian restaurant, Chokhi Dhani.
Having enthralled diners in Rajasthan, India, for over three decades, the brand’s first overseas venture will have its grand opening tomorrow 12th April.
Of course, the most important news is that Chokhi Dhani will be catering for Halal in the Nine Elms area of Battersea, south London, nearby to new US embassy, and part of the capital’s impressive diplomatic dining scene.
Head chef Vishnu Natarajan, who saw acclaimed Carom in Soho win a prestigious Harden’s award, has informed FtL that “chicken, lamb and rabbit” will be Halal.
He also confirmed: “We don’t do pork. We also cook venison and ostrich. Everything is prepped and cooked separately.”
Partnering up with him will be senior sous chef Mohammed Naseem Qureshi, latterly of Bombay Bustle and the now closed Lotus; pastry chef Rakesh Sharma (Chutney Mary, Mint Leaf); and an expert on Rajasthani cuisine, Bhagwan Singh, from the award-winning Cinnamon Culture.
With such talent at its disposal, Chokhi Dhani London aims to showcase the fine food of its renowned Rajasthan venue, though with a contemporary twist.
In addition, it will be highlighting dishes from this ancient princely state, with its widely revered royal cuisine, as well as dishes from across the subcontinent, whose textures and flavours promise an immersive and multi-sensory experience.
As such, expect the following dishes as samples of Chokhi Dhani’s contemporary take on traditional Rajasthani cuisine:
- Aloo Tikki (the tower) – Potato cake, brown beans, peas
- Desi Mithai – Gulab Jamun, Ginger & Honey Kulfi, Mango Gel
- Chokhi Dhani Foie Gras
And with the opening team being headed by general manager Dan Jelensek, who previously worked at Vineet Bhatia London before its sudden closure last year, expect exceptional service, coupled with a vibrant atmosphere and a stunning interior that celebrates Rajasthani local culture.
