The award-winning restaurant Darjeeling Express will be reopening at its new home in London’s Covent Garden next month.
Having outgrown its original location in Soho’s Kingly Court, successful restaurateur Asma Khan is in the midst of preparing an exciting new menu for the grand opening on 18 November.
With Capital & Counties Properties PLC (‘Capco’) having offered her their flagship Grade II listed building on Garrick Street, Asma said: “We are really excited to move to our new home and continue our journey.”

The venue’s larger kitchen will allow the renowned cook to provide a more expansive menu with the introduction of traditional feasting, or “dawat” food, and three tasting menus available for sit-down dining from Wednesday to Saturday (5-10pm).
The nostalgic Calcutta to Darjeeling menu will feature dishes straight from Asma’s childhood and include Beetroot Chop served with Bengali spiced croquettes, and the Baadami Baingan and Alu Bukhara Biryani.
An exciting addition to this restaurant will be the Deli by Darjeeling menu (available Mon-Sat 10am-6pm & Sun 12-4pm), with eat-in and takeaway options, that’s been inspired by Asma’s Railway journeys with her family in the 1980s.
Asma Khan said: “The soul of the food remains the heritage traditional recipes, with a new format to embarque our guests on a spice Odyssey – a journey of spice. [sic]
“Our story has been unconventional from the start. This move is not just a celebration for our team – it is an affirmation for every individual that you belong anywhere and everywhere – there are no barriers to where your passion can take you. We started small but our dreams were always big.”
