Breakfast at Dough & So Bakery in Shepherd’s Bush
By Aku Fu
One morning I found myself walking up and down Uxbridge Road and through Shepherd’s Bush Market.
What I found was a plethora of Halal options for breakfast and dining ranging from the bog standard to the somewhat alternative.
In the end, and for no particular reason, we found ourselves in the peculiarly named Dough & So Bakery – a fully Halal discreet looking Turkish cafe opposite the green and not too far from Shepherd’s Bush station.
We had wanted to go to another cafe just a stones throw away, which did a Mediterranean breakfast that looked different and appealing, but they were not serving till an hour later.
In any case, our second choice was a builder’s breakfast place, which we were initially after any way.
Not only was it well priced, but delivered a big plate of all that bacon and eggs goodness.
And while all this was washed down with freshly squeezed orange juice, we even tried some hard-to-find Kunafa dessert at the end.
The breakfast itself wasn’t anything out of the ordinary; that is to say, I cant tell you if that beef sausage was tasty, dry or sickly, or if that turkey bacon turned out the way it should, because so often they do not.
Maybe the yoke was not runny enough, and the toast not compensating for the absence of hash brown; but I enjoyed it and that can only mean it was adequate.
Next time I am walking these streets, I will try something different. The moral of the story is, however, that there’s something to experience here, be it the Market or the high street itself, and it’s worth a visit.
The area epitomises multi-cultural Britain, and I am sure there are some gems still to find.
