DwnTwn confirmed as Leicester’s leading smashed burger brand

Of all the smashed burger restaurants considered for FtLion’s epic Halal food tour of Leicester (sponsored by HMC online meat purveyors Halal Editions), DwnTwn was always going to be the one.

The decision was a foregone conclusion based on sheer reputation alone, given how this brand is the go-to place for locals seeking to satisfy their smashed burger itch.

Having opened on Evington Road in 2021, DwnTwn isn’t just known for its range of mouthwatering beef, chicken, and veggie burgers, but also for its pizzas, wings, loaded fries, and shakes.

While the venue can comfortably accommodate 18 diners, with additional seating available outside during the warmer climes, the place itself is immaculately clean with a bright interior and super-friendly staff.

It isn’t surprising to learn, therefore, that this fast food business successfully opened a huge second site in the city of Blackburn only last year in September.

DwnTwn offers a small menu refined to perfection

A restaurant that serves just five burgers, half-a-dozen pizzas, a selection of marinations for its wings, and a few sides, is a restaurant that’s carefully thought through such a refined menu.

While the 4oz Angus beef smash patty (£5) in their popular Smash Dwn burger can be upgraded to either 6oz (£5) or 8oz (£8), the superbly seasoned 6oz burger below was elevated by the addition of sweet caramelised onions, and the smoky hit of premium rashers (extra items £1 each).

Their New York-inspired fried chicken DwnTwn’r is exceptionally good too, with quality brioche buns housing a succulent breast that’s coated in a delicately crispy batter, and covered in plenty of finger-licking sauce to help counter the heat of jalapenos.

But don’t forget that all their burgers can be enhanced with extras that include an extra patty, a fried egg to add a layer of richness, smoky rashers, caramelised onions, and a crispy hash brown.

These burgers must also be enjoyed with DwnTwn’s now famous mixed Loaded Fries, which is renowned for taking shredded pieces of smashed patty and combining them with small chunks of chicken.

Add to that plenty of zingy inhouse sauce, caramelised red onions, and chopped green chillis, and what you’ll be presented with is a huge box of goodness for just £5.50. Insane!

Coming in three sizes (9″, 12″, 15″) with either thin or thick crust, DwnTwn’s choice of six pizzas do not pale in comparison either, with a dozen toppings to choose from, such as pepperoni, Turkey ham, chicken, and more, for those looking to custom-create their own.

Otherwise, their signature DwnTwn Pizza is covered in an addictively good house tomato-base, before being topped with mozzarella cheese, onions, tomatoes, smashed Angus beef, gherkins, and a house sauce.

Their range of wings is another good example of DwnTwn’s endeavour to stand out from the crowd, with the choice of either fried or grilled, and the following flavours: house sauce, sweet chilli, sticky BBQ, and mango habanero.

For those who can’t decide on whether to order a portion of crispy buttermilk DwnTwn Wings, or the fried house batter, then the solution is to go for DwnTwn Roulette, which presents an assortment of 10 mixed wings.

By this point, it should be obvious that DwnTwn isn’t your ordinary smashed burger brand, having put in considerable effort in making them positively distinct from the competition.
