Pan-African ‘Farin Road’ opening in Edinburgh cafe Tani Modi
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal food menu • Alcohol servedA chef who’s worked at Gordon Ramsay’s global brand Bread Street will soon acquire a permanent pop-up site for his Pan-African ‘Farin Road‘ in Edinburgh.
Chef Tunde Abifarin will be serving his innovative food at independent café Tani Modi from Friday 6 May on the historic Hanover Street.
Taking over the cafe’s kitchen after it closes, the chef will begin his service at 5.30pm, though only on Fridays and Saturdays to begin with.
Drawing inspiration from the African continent, Brazil, and the Caribbean, Chef Abi, as he is better known, informed FtLion: “Our menu is currently fully Halal and [we] intend to stay that way. We have no pork on the menu and have no dishes cooked with alcohol.”
His menu includes a range of dishes such as Jerk from the Caribbean, Kachumbari from Tanzania, Agashe from Sudan, Chakalaka from South Africa, and many more.
Recently, he started as senior sous chef at the newly opened Bread Street by Gordon Ramsay in St Andrews Square which he described as an “amazing opportunity”.
Chef Abi said that he is now looking forward to preparing his fusion African cuisine at Farin Road with plans of adding takeaway and delivery services in the near future.
