Fat Hippo, Big Eat, Icon & Dooh Ponto opening soon in London

A number of Halal-friendly burger restaurants will be launching across the capital in the coming few weeks including two that’ll be making their London debut.

International Portuguese and African fusion food brand Dooh Ponto recently made the big announcement that they’ll be launching their first branch in the capital’s Wood Green.

While this second venue will be located on the High Road, with the first situated in Suffolk’s Mildenhal, they have confirmed that “our meat is Halal” via Zaman Siddiqui.

With a dozen sites across four countries, Dooh Ponto was founded in 2016 on the west coast of Southern Africa’ s Luanda in Angola, and was “so profitable that we opened one restaurant every two months”.

Huddersfield’s Icon, who recently partnered with Boom Battle Bar – an arena that ostensibly combines food and booze with competitive socialising games like axe throwing and crazy golf all under one roof – will be making its London debut in Ealing.

With a fully Halal food menu and known for their larger-than-life burgers, this restaurant first launched in 2019 and is now eyeing sites in both Surrey and Essex.

Fat Hippo, who boast almost 100k Instagram followers and will soon be opening in east London’s Shoreditch before launching in Birmingham’s Bennetts Hill next month, have told FtLion: “We can confirm the chicken we use across all locations is certified Halal, but the beef isn’t.”

Regarding alcohol and the issue of cross-contamination, they also clarified: “None of the sauces have alcohol in them and all of the raw ingredients are segregated so any dishes with bacon… can be withheld. The chicken is also cooked in its own separate fryer!”

The grand opening of Big Eat‘s second eatery in West Hendon Broadway in Edgware is fast approaching on Friday 27 May.

With a HMC-certified restaurant already in north London’s Edmonton, the doner specialists also serve burgers, wings, wraps, and more.
