If it hasn’t already, then Cona‘s legendary status as, not just a steakhouse, but also as a restaurant deserves recognition for virtually single-handedly raising the bar for UK’s Halal restaurant scene. Having finally got to experience the hype ourselves, we certainly acknowledged their status by rating them a perfect 5/5.

And of course they’ve been shortlisted for a starter and a veggie (both being the same dish), as well as a main, seafood, grill, and a pair of desserts.

DRUNCH

Drunch in London’s Fitzrovi is their newest branch, and one which we rated 4.5/5. The chef here has gone above and beyond to make certain that the food menu is not just Halal, but the vast majority of the produce and ingredients is also sourced directly from Italy. And the results were evident, with their beverage, a starter, a veggie, and a grill dish in contention, as well as them being in with the chance of winning the best newcomer award.

DUCK & NOODLE

This restaurant, strictly be speaking, may not be new, but given that it was taken over by the husband and wife team behind the hugely impressive Malaysian restaurant Bonda Kitchen, resulting in the menu being significantly changed, it’s been included in this category.

Rated 4.5/5, Duck & Noodle in London’s Bayswater don’t just have a main and a seafood nominated, but have also qualified for the newcomer award.

HONG KONG RESTAURANT

Rated 4.5/5, Hong Kong Restaurant in London Islington has the apparent distinction of being the very first genuine Chinese restaurant (not Pan-Asian) to offer a fully Halal food menu in that part of London.

Courtesy of the hardwork of a man with an ethos of inclusiveness, they have a starter dish in for the running, as well as best newcomer.

PATRI

Some of you will recall Patri winning our curry house of the year in 2019. While they are for us the best Indian restaurant in Ealing, and perhaps even the west London, they were again rated 4.5/5.

Having put up an amazing Ramadan menu this year, their extraordinary Gramthu Meen Kulambu has been shortlisted for a seafood award.

PITMASTER

All the hype we’d heard of Pitmaster didn’t just turn out to be true, but shattered our expectations. Rated 5/5, this is benchmark by which all other Halal BBQ smokehouses will be judged from this point on. In fact, we wouldn’t be afraid in going so far as to say that this is one smokehouse which could compete against any other across the country, Halal or otherwise.

They don’t just have a shake, a starter, and two burgers nominated, but of course also a grill.

PUTERA PUTERI (MALAY FELLAS)

We’ve visited enough Malaysian eateries to know that, while they can be a mixture of homely food and spruced up restaurant dishes, often they tend to lack in consistency. Well, Malay Fellas have raised the game in a way we simply weren’t anticipating at Putera Puteri in London’s Queensway.

Having been rated a 5/5 this year, and with a starter, seafood, and a dessert up for consideration, are on this list on account of the extremely talented duo of chefs who go by the name Malay Fellas.

RIBEYE

VOTE NOW ON Facebook/ Instagram

Part of our Manchester Tour 2022, Ribeye entirely floored us with some outstanding cookery, incredible produce, and new additions to the menu which bode well for what is undoubtedly Manchester’s leading fully Halal steakhouse.

Rated a perfect 5/5, they virtually dominate this year’s FtLionAwards with a duo of desserts, a pair of grills, main, two veggies, two starters, and two beverages in for the running.

TARRAGON BISTRO

As part of our Birmingham Food Toour 2022, Tarragon Bistro in Hall Green has all the hallmarks of classic fine dining, but conceived and presented by Muslim chef and owner Sadek Ahmed. We haven’t encountered many Muslim chefs who have plied their trade to reach the level he has, and fewer still who have opened their own restaurant. He may not be a household name, but by golly could can he cook.

Having been rated 4.5/5, Tarragon Bistro have a beverage, a main, a seafood, a grill, and a dessert up for consideration this year.
