Halal winners of the Good Food Award for Takeaway 2020
Over a hundred restaurants, many of them Halal, were recognised for their hard work by the Good Food Award for Takeaways 2020.
105 winners were announced on the award group’s website early this evening following the casting of over 10,000 votes by members of the public.
With over 54,000 takeaways in the UK, the Good Food Award says its accolades “recognise only… the best” in this category.
There were some notable winners too among the list including the multi award-winning Halal eatery Uni Kebab (rated 4/5 by FtLion) in Southampton.
Conveniently located just down the road from the city’s university, the family-run Turkish takeaway, who also won the award last year, tweeted: “A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us. We are thrilled that all the hard work we put into making quality handmade food is being recognised by industry experts and most importantly our customers.”
Another kebab place that also retained its award was the established Halal doner chain German Doner Kebab – specifically its Mile End Road branch in East London.
Rooster Shack in Woking won this year, although thanks to some help from an editorial piece – unabashedly titled ‘Rooster Shack needs your votes’ – published on a local news website.
Owner Imran Mamud was quoted by the Woking News & Mail as pleading: “We’ve been nominated to the shortlist for our category, the takeaways, but to take the next step and win the award, we need our customers to please keep voting for us. That’s what we’re asking them to do.”
Following their win, the takeaway posted on Facebook: “Its official! Thanks to our amazing customers and team we have won the 2020 Good Food Award!”
