Lawless City Burger tears up rule book in Canning Town London
Don’t you just wish sometimes that someone would just discard of the current rule book and introduce something novel to the UK’s monotonous Halal burger scene?
Well, with the recent launch of Lawless City Burger in east London, we have a hero, or should that be anti-hero, who’s done exactly that!
Located in Rathbone Market is a black street food van, with bold luminous colours and plenty of catchy graffiti, that truly does scream “Rebel of the City”.
These new boys mean business too with a concept that’s been inspired by the comic book anti-hero theme where characters are known for adopting extreme measures in response to a major crisis.
As Lawless City Burger declares on its website: “The constitution (cook book) is made up of rules to make and serve dull burgers to the citizens. But rules are made to be broken!”
As such, they’ve torn up the conventional burger handbook and adopted “the dynamic duo of forbidden flavours” said to be “so good that they are considered criminal”.
For this Dark Knight on Barking Road, “it’s time to break away from lifeless burgers, embrace your rebellious side” and prepare for “revolution”, because “the only true freedom is lawlessness, and we have the burgers for you to experience liberation”.
And Lawless City Burger certainly have the pedigree too, since the rebellious lot behind this venture are also behind the artisanal Halal pizza restaurant Zzetta, that’s located adjacent to the market.
In the meantime, and in their pursuit to “embrace the anarchy and rebel against boring burgers”, Lawless have utilised the experience of executive chef Thomas, who’s previously been instrumental in successfully establishing American burger brand Five Guys in the UK.
Not only has this talented chef created a menu that’s dangerously addictive, with hand-pressed patties and homemade “underground sauces” designed “to accelerate your tastebuds to new levels of freedom”, but also other goodies too; or should that read baddies?
If names could kill, then these eight menu items would definitely be at the top of any ‘Most Wanted’ food list:
The “Cop” Dog • Rule Breaker • Rebel of Tokyo • Protest Rave • Outlaw’s Duty • Beat the Game • Sriracha’s Revenge • Break the Silence.
Take their Rebel of Tokyo as an example of a burger that’s separated itself from the chaff with exotic ingredients like Japanese-style marinated fried chicken fillet, shiitake mushrooms, mirin onions, and housemade KiKi Teriyaki sauce.
How about the Beat the Game burger, which isn’t just adaptable enough to accommodate 100% premium smashed beef patties or a grilled chicken fillet, but also houses lollo rosso lettuce, crispy turkey bacon, a sliced pineapple to provide that difference, and some inhouse jail-time sauce, all of which can be served in either a potato bun or a sesame brioche bun.
If you’re looking for something completely different though, especially with Veganuary currently being the in-thing, then there’s a Rule Breaker burger that comprises a veggie patty with an assortment of exciting condiments all nestled in a plant-based bun.
On the other hand, if you fancy something other than burgers, then Lawless City Burger have you covered with The “Cop” Dog.
This hot dog contains premium turkey sausage that’s absolutely smothered in smoky grilled onions and mushrooms, ketchup, pickles, tomatoes, spicy mustard, as well as housemade runaway cheese sauce, a tash-tash sauce, before being sprinkled in crispy dry onions to provide that textural contrast.
Yup; it’s safe to say that these rabble-rousers have all the necessary prerequisites in place to shake up this country’s tediously mundane Halal burger sector.
To this end, not only have they made life easier with the availability of a mobile app downloadable from Google Play and Apple Store, but orders can also be conveniently made through Deliveroo and Just Eat for home delivery.
More importantly, FtLion has teamed up with Lawless City Burger to offer readers a massive 50% off all their burger meals (collection only) during this lockdown and beyond. Let anarchy reign!
