Moski’s in Edinburgh displays ‘Zionist free zone’ signage
Not all Jewish people are in support of the Israeli governments actions – Moski’s cafe
A Halal cafe accused of anti-Semitism in Edinburgh has said that it does “not support genocide and… the killing of any human being”.
Moski’s says it is “saddened” by the response from some community members towards a “Zionist free zone” signage it put up on its window front.
Despite Police Scotland having reportedly looked into the incident and declared it “not a hate crime”, the eatery on Great Junction Street has received fierce criticism online by pro-Zionists.
But the cafe has doubled down on its stance informing FtLion that: “Our point stands: We do not support any group or organisation which support[s] the killing of any human being.”
The Executive Director Michael Dickson of pro-Israeli charity, StandWithUs, was reported by The Jewish Chronicle to have said: “This sign bans the vast majority of Jewish people and others besides. It’s discrimination.”
Not all Jews support Israeli government, says Moski’s
But Moski’s disagreed stating: “At Moski’s we do not discriminate against race, religion, sexual orientation or nationality and I am quite saddened to see the response by some members of the community claiming that we do not allow ‘Jews to enter’. This is quite a serious accusation.
“Not all Jewish people are in support of the Israeli governments actions and I would like thier [sic] views to also be heard on the matter and of course again, everyone is welcome. We encourage an open-table discussion for everyone to express thier views and opinions.”
The Moski’s representative further told FtLion: “I’m more than happy to put one up that says ‘Declare Leith an Isis Free Zone’ also.”
Insisting that this did not mean “comparing anyone and anything”, Moski’s repeated: “We do not support genocide and we do not support the killing of any human being.”
