Mother’s Day set menus at London’s top restaurants
There’s always some amazingly conceived set menus served by some of London’s top Halal-oriented restaurants for Mother’s Day.
This year isn’t any different with an inspired variety of dishes that’ll have you and your mother spoiled for choice.
To make things just that little easier for you, however, we’ve collated seven such restaurants for you to consider this coming Sunday, 11 March:
We start with FtLion Awards 2017’s Best Restaurant of the Year, Grand Trunk Road (review here), which was the only eatery FtL last year to achieve a perfect 5/5 review rating.
In addition, not only did Chef Sharma’s exceptional skills also earn GTR the Best Curry House award, but also Best Starter for its Rawalpindi ka Chapli Kebab.
And for Mother’s Day, GTR has cretaed the following mouth-watering 3-course set meal, with a vegetarian option also available, for just £38.50 per person (inc VAT):
- Appetizer
- Potato & paneer cake, sultana, ginger, coriander, green chilli with mint & tamarind chutney.
- Tandoor grilled chicken supreme, cream cheese, green.
- Tilapia fish, pepper, turmeric & carom seeds & mint chutney.
- Main Course
- Chicken thighs, crushed coriander, tamarind, finished with coconut milk.
- Masala grill sea baas with spicy mash & mustard sauce.
- Asparagus, cauliflower, fine beans, paneer, carrots, bell pepper masala sauce.
- New potatoes cooked with cumin & fresh coriander.
- Black Lentils cooked overnight, ginger, tomato and dry fenugreek – a speciality of North-west frontier.
- Pulao Rice & Bread basket.
- Dessert
- Sticky date pudding with ginger ice cream.

Double Michelin-starred Chef Atul Kochhar has created a special Tasting Menu (alcohol not used as an ingredient) for £105 per person. What’s more, a Chef’s Table VIP Experience is also available, but for £600! While the following 6-course Tasting Menu’s Champagne Cocktail available on arrival can be replaced with a mocktail, a box of handmade chocolates is included to take home:

Benares is also offering a 2-course A la Carte menu for £62 and a 3-course A la Carte for £76 (main dish contains duck and venison which is not Halal), as well as a 2-course Set Menu for £39, and a 3-course Set Menu for £45 that’s available for lunch ONLY. Check their website here for these menus.

Talli Joe has teamed up with acclaimed food writer and cookbook author Meera Sodh with whom they will be preparing this Mother’s Day Feast below all for £35 per person. This menu will include some of Meera’s mother’s favourite recipes.

One of the first Indian restaurants in the world to be awarded a Michelin star, Tamarind of Mayfair is offering a 3-course Mother’s Day Lunch Menu (below) for £40 per person:
- Spiced bean sprouts with yoghurt, pomegranate, mint & tamarind chutney
- Devonshire crab & kingfish cake with ginger, mustard and lime leaves; berry chutney
- Corn-fed chicken supreme, tandoor-grilled with puréed peppers & cardamom

Zaika of Kensington, which is described on its website as “sister-restaurant to Michelin-starred Tamarind of Mayfair”, holds two AA rosettes, and is also doing a Mother’s Day tasting menu, which includes a veggie option. Unlike Tamarind’s 5-courser though, it’s offering a simpler 3-course meal for £35pp:

- Mixed Vegetable Tikki – Potato and mixed vegetable galettes, served with mint chutney.
- Murg Malai Tikka – Tandoori grilled chicken supreme, marinated with cheese and cream.
- Achari Seabass – Tandoori grilled seabass marinated with pickling spices.
