There aren’t many fully Halal, authentic, Italian pizza and pasta restaurants in London, which makes Mozzafellas in Edgware an intriguing prospect.

With their pasta game said to revolve around “authentic and secret recipes”, they offer 23 pizza options in two sizes, 12″ and The Giant 20″, as well as a build-your-own option.

Located on the High Street, this 24-cover venue is simply decorated with a homely vibe and a large stone oven that’s in full view of the diners.

In addition, this pizzeria serves 16 starters and sides, over a dozen pasta dishes, a selection of salads, and some Italian desserts.

Linguine with Spicy Prawns – King prawns, spinach, cherry tomatoes spicy creamy sauce, £14.99

The first thing to leap out from this bowl was how precisely the prawns had been cooked, having retained that spongy succulence of perfectly adjudged crustaceans.

The next thing was the spicy sauce that beautifully coated both the seafood and the strands of linguine. Offering just the right amount of satisfying heat, the acidity of cherry tomatoes helped cut through the richness of the creamy sauce.

Spaghetti Bolognese – Minced beef ragu, plum tomato and basil sauce, parmesan, £13.99

Given the simple ingredients that make up a classic spaghetti bolognese, a good one will always be the sum of its parts.

In Mozzafellas’ case, the parts came together into a cohesive whole to deliver a delicious one, with the ragu beef textured just enough to offer enough bite, and the tomato sauce’s subtle piquancy helping to balance things out.

Seafood Pasta (seasonal)

This Seafood Pasta dish is a seasonal one which, if the owner hasn’t decided yet to make it a permanent one, he should, because everything was accounted for here in terms of tastes, flavours and textures.

Driven by a tomato-based sauce, the gentle flavours and aromas made this one of the best dishes had.

Fresco (12″) – Mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, fresh rocket, avocado slices, shaved parmesan, £13.99

This seemingly healthy and light Fresco was arguably the best pizza of the lot, and certainly the surprise package.

With mozzarella topped with shavings of parmesan (Halal of course) to give it that salty edge, and a whole array of toppings from cherry tomatoes and plenty of peppery fresh rocket, and avocado slices that came together in perfect union.

Mozzafellas (12″) – Mozzarella, ham, bacon, mushrooms, peppers, olives, £14.99

Onto the pizzas and Mozzafellas signature had plenty of cheese and a variety of toppings – from the turkey ham and bacon, to the mushrooms, peppers and olives – to make this an enjoyable one.

Capricciosa (20″) – Mozzarella, ham, mushrooms, artichoke, olives, £23.99

Not quite as good as the previous two, but this Capricciosa was, nevertheless, a tasty one with the artichoke giving that extra textural dimension, and the black olives that intense hit of flavour.

Avocado Salad – Baby gem lettuce, cherry tomatoes, spring onion, feta cheese, parsley dressing, £10.99

If you’re looking to help cut through the richness of the more strongly-flavoured pastas or pizzas then this Avocado Salad is a good choice, with the parsley dressings bringing together the many elements therein.
