Afghan cafe Naan & Chai opens in London’s East Ham
HALAL STATUS Fully HalalA new Afghan-Persian cafe in East Ham has already published a number of mouthwatering images of its menu.
Located two doors down from the local mosque on Barking Road, Naan & Chai is a relatively small eatery that appears to be offering quite a few traditional dishes.
Although their menu has not yet been published online, images already published on their Instagram account suggest plenty of Afghani food.
Given that they open early every morning at 9am, there’s also breakfast available which includes your traditional English.
And yet the “Persian Restaurant” has said that since “there is more to breakfast th[a]n just eggs”, the cafe says it offers what’s known as a Pacha.
Elaborating further, it adds: “The perfect comfort food for the winter. …Â Pacha is a famous dish of the people of the silk route. Slow cooked meat and beef trotters with balanced spices creating a thick sticky stew. Served with #naanandchai. As a young boy, I remember my parents would send me a bowl with fresh cut homemade naan to the chai khana to collect Pacha [sic].”
Other dishes include the Balkhi Bulani, which appears to be stuffed bread, and Naan & Chai’s Mantu – “authentic Afghan dumplings filled with mince meat blended with fine[ly] cut onions and exotic spices to fill your savoury craving [sic]”.
With such a menu, Naan & Chai might be worth the visit to see what other exciting dishes they have on their menu.
