Nashtawala Indian breakfast enjoyed in Leicester

A new Indian cafe has been discovered called Nashtawala (Nashta meaning breakfast) on Maidstone Road.

Owned by a Gujarati family, this place serves both Indian and English breakfast, with a new concept of Indian tea called Tandoori Chai.

Pot of Tandoori Chai, £3.00

Tandoori Chai is Indian Tea made in a clay pot. It’s pretty fascinating to watch, served in a mini clay pot. Very unique indeed and the first in Leicester!

The Tandoori Chai tastes like proper Indian brew too. I prefer mine with sugars, three teaspoonfuls, diabetes in a cup you say?

My eldest son pointed out the English Breakfast that was illustrated on the front of the menu and said, “Dad, I want this,” pointing at photo. I had one and half of the English breakfast, as my eldest couldn’t finish his.

My younger one had a few slices of buttered toast with his Tandoori Chai. I went through two pots of it. The English breakfast wasn’t any different to what I have had from other cafes; but nevertheless my stomach was full and I was ready for my day ahead.

Chana Puri, £3.50

I also had Chana Puri which tasted delicious when the chana is put inside the puri, and adding the homemade chutney and red onions, with a squeeze of lemon, before just rolling it up like a puri wrap.

My younger one enjoyed the puri that much that he ate my second one too Masha’Allah. I had to order another one for myself and plus one for my eldest. The puri is a great size. I’m not normally a massive fan of savoury snacks, but this one for sure is recommended.

Pastries £1.00 each (prices may vary depending on which pastry is chosen)

I ordered Samosas and Chicken Pastries; nothing different from what I’ve tried before, but it still tasted nice.

Another one was the White Sauce Pastry which I was a bit disappointed with as I expected the white sauce to come out from it after taking a bite. Instead, it seemed like it had dried out. The only thing I can suggest is, if it’s possible to order a fresh one while a customer waits.

Lastly, I ordered my favourites – Half-Moons! Who doesn’t love the breadcrumb savoury snack with various fillings? I love them!

The customer service was great. They’ll even ask if what you have ordered is okay.

All in all, it’s great to go as a family or if you prefer on your own (both card (contactless too) and cash payments accepted).
