Over a thousand discount vouchers were redeemed at restaurants and takeaways across the UK yesterday for the inaugural National Kebab Day.
50 participating food outlets offering some significant discounts saw 1,137 e-vouchers issued to kebab enthusiasts across Great Britain.
With the majority offering at least 30% off either a single kebab meal or their entire menu, the day was described as “a resounding success”.
National Kebab Day was organised by Halal food news portal, Feed the Lion, to help struggling restaurants and takeaways reopen smoothly after being locked down for three months.
And the restaurant that proved the most popular was also the one to provide the highest discount.
Over 200 e-vouchers with a massive 40% off a single kebab meal were issued for use at the well-known Turkish establishment Aziziye in London’s Stoke Newington.
Chief Editor of Feed the Lion, Hamza A. Bajwa, said: “We weren’t expecting the response to be as good as it’s turned out to be, especially given the lockdown situation.
“With people across the country requesting over a thousand vouchers, I’d certainly describe this first year as a resounding success.”
He also took the opportunity to thank the sponsors of this year’s initiative, award-winning Indian restaurant brand Patri, with branches in west London’s Northfields and Hammersmith.
Feed the Lion are now preparing for the fourth year of the hugely popular National Halal Burger Day which takes place in August next month.
