London’s Original Turkish Eatery introduces ‘Esnaf Lokantasi’

Original Turkish Eatery (OTE) has opened what in Turkey is known as an ‘Esnaf Lokantasi’ in London.

Located in Fitzrovia’s Charlotte Street, an Esnaf Lokantasi is an informal cafeteria style restaurant that traditionally caters for local workers on their lunch breaks.

Bringing the same authentic home-cooked recipes that define these family-owned establishments, OTE will be serving nourishing salads, stews, mezes, pides – known as ‘Turkish Pizzas’ – and dips.

OTE will be serving these in their signature moulded tray with four compartments that hold: a ‘base’, like Bulgur rice; a main, such as Taskebabi or Mousakka; a meze dip; and meze salad.

While customers can also choose from a selection of set Esnaf boxes, the flexibility of the menu means there are plenty of combinations on offer available for grab & go, delivery, or eating-in; though spaces are limited.

“Our mission is to re-write a narrative on Turkish food in London,” said OTE’s Tugba Açikel, before adding: “Every day at OTE we serve a variety of freshly prepared dishes made with high-quality seasonal ingredients from Turkey’s diverse regions like Anatolian, Aegean and Mediterranean.”
