This “authentic American bake shop and cafe … devoted to all things sweet and yummy” is worth a visit if you’re ever in Chiswick.

The story goes that “a couple of professional guys moved from New York to live and work in London – but discovered that good, wholesome cupcakes, sweet pies and fresh tarts were really hard to come by. Outsiders as they both are, they set about rectifying the situation by turning a favourite hobby into an award-winning business” called Outsider Tart.

Grits and egg

Grits and egg

Now, remember the grits scene from the classic Joe Pesci comedy My Cousin Vinny?

Well, although grits isn’t officially on the menu, the chef was, nevertheless, kind enough to make this nicely seasoned and extremely delicious grits and egg. It’s like a savoury porridge topped with a medium cooked fried egg with the grits at the bottom.

Cornbread with jam and butter, and Arnold Palmer lemonade.

The corn bread had a gritty texture while the jam was uniquely tasty.

Buttermilk Pancakes

These giant pancakes were scrumptious particularly the butter which was especially yummy.

Tuna Melt

This tuna melt was cheesy and flavoursome.

All in all, outstanding food with a menu that offers unique American style brunch.

Note: Although non-Halal, there’s a large range of veggie options to indulge in.

Definitely worth a visit, especially for that scrumptious cornbread and those tasty pancakes!
