Penang (Malaysian) – Westfield White City
We were looking forward to eating some more fish after our last outing to The Spice House. Penang was the target this time and this is what they had to boast about:
Our menu is inspired by the incredibly diverse flavours of Malaysia. The eclectic mix of cultures – particularly Indian, Chinese and Thai, as well as indigenous Malaysians – makes Malaysia home to some of the most incredible food on the planet!
Taking inspiration from Malaysia’s famous street markets, PENANG! excites your taste buds, serving up big, fresh…
If that doesn’t excite you, then what will, right?
Wasn’t a very good start with the above.
May be it’s a Malaysian thing, but, we were wondering: why even bother with this? Poor!

CHAR KWAY TEOW £10.25 Flat rice noodles, cooked with soy sauce, prawns, chicken, beansprouts, spring onions and a mild sambal
Nice, yet average.
To be honest, this was lacking in flavour when compared to the sea bass. Give this a pass!

AYAM GYOZA £6.50 Four handmade chicken gyoza, steamed then pan-fried one side, served with a homemade sauce of soy, sweet chilli and ginger
This went unfinished once the chicken had been eaten.
Needless to say, it wasn’t what we expected.
They say:
Our sea bass fillet is basted in a lively dressing of ginger, spring onion and soy sauce, then steamed to keep it juicy and moist and served with stir fried vegetables.
Agreed; this was finger-licking deeeeeelicious! A show stopper and a half, and simply elevated the whole experience to another level. You pay for what you get, they say and this was true quality.
