Having opened its first restaurant of 2023 in Cambridge last week, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is preparing to open in Reading this week.
After launching in Market Hill, the US fried chicken brand will celebrate its debut in Reading on Broad Street this Thursday – its 17th branch in all.
With doors opening at 9am, the first two in the queue will receive free chicken sandwiches for a year, with free chicken sandwiches and merch for the first 25 people in the queue.
The franchise also confirmed the locations of the next seven openings in the UK with two drive-thrus in the capital: Woolwich and Kilburn.
Having likewise applied for further drive-thrus in Sixfields, Northampton, Popeyes expects to open 20 sites this year including Cardiff, Plymouth, Richmond, Rotherham and Glasgow’s Barrhead.
With all of its venues in the country offering a fully Halal food menu, their website states: “Sourcing UK Sourced, Red Tractor chicken,” before adding: “Everyone is welcome at our table. All of our chicken is Halal and we have certification from the Halal Monitoring Board.”
But FtLion has been informed that Popeyes’ breakfast menu is not Halal, with a representative clarifying: “We don’t serve chicken at breakfast, but our chicken served with our daytime menu remains Halal.”
