Halal restaurants at Bicester Village in Oxfordshire
Home to more than 160 boutiques, Bicester Village in Oxfordshire is a popular destination spot for any shopper looking for a range of VIP services and huge savings on leading brands.
As the founding member of a collection of 11 global shopping destinations, Bicester Village also houses a variety of chic restaurants and creative pop-ups that offer a range of exciting cuisines.
The good news is that, apart from a dedicated ‘Contemplation Room’ ideal for fulfilling one’s daily prayers, there’s also a number of Halal and Halal-friendly spots we’ve discovered.
So while you go about your shopping spree amidst the Village’s beautiful settings and cultural richness, here’s a list of eateries worth checking out.
FARMSHOP
HALAL STATUS Separate Halal menu available on request (prepped and cooked separately) • Alcohol servedThe Farmshop is a huge, 240-cover “restaurant & cafe” that’s quite unique in that they are the only eatery at Bicester Village who have gone out of their way to offer a separate Halal menu.
While this menu is available on request, the most important thing is Farmshop management’s assurance that everything is prepped and cooked separately.
The menu focuses on rustic British food that ranges from old-fashioned classics to hearty farmhouse dishes.
The restaurant itself is unique, with cobblestone floors, barn doors and exposed wooden beams paying respect to the Oxfordshire countryside.
With two private dining spaces and outdoor terrace seating, there’s also a stylish little food vendor parked directly outside for quick grab ‘n’ goes.
CAFE WOLSELEY
HALAL STATUS Halal chicken only (prepped and cooked separately) • Alcohol servedCafé Wolseley is the latest venture from restaurateurs Corbin & King, and is named after their long-standing London flagship The Wolseley in Piccadilly.
This particular branch is their first outside London and serves as an all-day café-cum-restaurant, with a takeaway counter.
But here’s the important detail: they cater for Halal chicken, with two dishes, namely the chicken burger and the chicken pot, being available on the menu.
While the former is deep-fried in a frier dedicated exclusively for this purpose, the latter, we’ve been informed by the manager, is also cooked and prepped separately.
SHAN SHUI
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal food menu • Alcohol servedPaying homage to the best of Asian cuisine, Shan Shui says it follows “time-honoured recipes and working only with the freshest ingredients sourced locally”.
Again one that prefers to remain neutral, i.e. it’s not designated Halal on Bicester Village’s website; nevertheless, we’ve been informed by the manager that all meat is Halal, with no alcohol used as an ingredient, though served on the premises.
Inspired by 1920s Shanghai, the restaurant’s décor features a myriad of textures, colours and textiles, which is a nod to city’s most glamorous era. The menu features a selection of Chinese culinary wonders along with popular South-East Asian favourites. It also boasts a range of bite-sized Dim Sum that are steamed fresh daily.
AMMOURA
HALAL STATUS Fully HalalExclusive to Bicester Village, Ammoura Lebanese Kitchen draws on the vibrant and colourful cuisine and culinary traditions of the region.
Designated Halal on Bicester Village’s website, their street food menu features a range of handmade flatbread wraps and rice boxes for all-day on-the-go dining.
Discover traditional favourites such as charcoal-grilled lamb kofta or chicken maroc, which is gently spiced with ras-el-hanout.
SIMPLY NOODLES
HALAL STATUS Fully HalalFew things are as comforting as slurping on hot, delectable noodles, and at Simply Noodles there’s plenty of that and so much more.
With a Halal certificate proudly displayed outside, these guys say they are “working closely with neighbouring suppliers for the best possible food produce”.
This includes their slow-braised beef noodles and tender-stewed chicken noodles among other food items.
If you’re looking for a quick snack or small bites to accompany your meal, Simply Noodles also offers freshly steamed Bao Buns and Dim Sum. For us, the food here was “amazing”.
MAITRE CHOUX
HALAL STATUS Fully HalalMaitre Choux claim to be “the first and only choux pastry specialist patisserie in the world”.
Having confirmed with us that all their ingredients are vegetarian-friendly and alcohol free, if you’re looking for “the best éclairs, choux and chouquettes in town”, then this is the place to go.
