Shake Shack launch in south west London’s Clapham

International burger brand Shake Shack has opened in south west London’s Clapham this week.
Located on the corner Clapham High Street opposite Clapham Common, this is the brand’s 14th branch with outdoor seating available.
Having reported in 2017 that Shake Shack had launched a Halal chicken burger (called Chick’n Shack at the time but later renamed Chicken Shack) across all their branches, the global franchise has confirmed that it had also added Halal Chicken Bites to the menu.
With pork on the menu, Shake Shack address cross-contamination
A representative informed FtLion further: “The chicken we use in our Chicken Shack and Chicken Bites in every UK Shack is Halal-certified.
“However, we must highlight that we do also sell non-Halal menu items in our business – as such, our beef is not Halal.”
With pork a part of their menu, the spokesperson also clarified on the issue of cross-contamination: “We cook our meats separated – the non-Halal beef would be cooked on the grill [plus] our fried chicken would be cooked in the fryer; the two meats in the kitchen are separated with different utensils handling them. Oil is not shared between the meats as a result.
“Our bacon is cooked on a different end of the grill that is reserved specifically for bacon only, and the bacon is cooked on top of a grill-safe, single use baking sheet so the meat does not actually touch the grill. Utensils used for pork are separated from the utensils used for beef and chicken.
“Both our chicken and beef can be handled by the same team. However, food safety gloves are changed regularly to prevent cross-contamination.”
