17 sauces highlight Slim Chickens in Bluewater Dartford

All our chicken is halal across all our UK sites. We have the same menu as well, some are reduced in certain locations.

For those who don’t know, Slim Chickens in the UK is operated by the Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG), which also owns Gourmet Burger Kitchen.

The US-hatched chicken brand boasts over 50 sites across the UK including Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol, Southampton, and London.

They have previously confirmed with us that they serve Halal poultry across all their UK branches including this one in Dartford’s Bluewater shopping centre.

Although a cheese and bacon sandwich is on the menu, and their gravy non-Halal, they’ve told us: “All our chicken is Halal across all our UK sites. We have the same menu as well, some are reduced in certain locations.”

Having started 17 years ago in Arkansas, Slim Chickens are known for their “authentic Southern flavours including the brand’s most iconic dishes” which includes their cooked-to-order chicken tenders, wings, 17 different house sauces, and more.

Chocolate, Caramel, Strawberry – £5.50 each

Five dollar shakes, indeed! These were outstandingly good, with the respective flavours of each one – namely chocolate, caramel, and strawberry – coming through thick and strong. Recommended all the way!

5 & 5 Meal (5 Tenders & 5 Wings)- Texas toast, seasoned fries, house sauces & bottomless soft drink, £16.45

Slim Chickens have two versions of these Mix & Match meals: the 3 & 3 Meal and this 5 & 5 Meal.

Whopping 17 sauces!

With the seasoned fries superbly crunchy, the tenders and wings were fairly plain-tasting when had au naturel.

But this is where all the 17 inhouse sauces come into their own, with the ones we tried all being distinct and surprisingly good.

Of these – Ranch, Honey Mustard, Honey BBQ, Blue Cheese, and Sweet Red Chilli – the Blue Cheese and honey versions deserve being highlighted.

We weren’t quite sold by the addition of the Texas toast; but then again, we are Brits.

Hot Buffalo Sandwich – Lettuce, pickles, fried onions & blue cheese sauce, £13.45

With all burgers served with seasoned fries, house sauces and a bottomless soft drink, this Hot Buffalo burger, recommended by the manager, was a decent one.

Although we would have preferred our buffalo sauce to deliver that zingy knock-out blow, we did appreciate the crispiness of the fried onions added therein.

Honey BBQ Sandwich – Pickles, onions & Cheddar Jack cheese, £12.95

As for this Honey BBQ Sandwich, then again, when we order BBQ, we expect the deep smokiness of BBQ to come through.

And despite the sweetness of honey lingering in the background somewhere, the cheese was an interesting addition, although we would have preferred it rendered down some more. A subdued affair, is how we would describe this.

Crispy Fried Onions, £4.45

Yeah Slim Chickens version of Fried Onions is dangerously addictive. You could order two portions of these and not realise you’ve devoured ’em.

Fried Pickles, £4.95

Really enjoyed these tasty Fried Pickles, especially the cooling-effect of the ranch sauce that came with it. They could have been more on the crunchier side though.
