Smokey’s Grill – Slough
On a high street full of the usual chicken joints, this stands out with its excellent decor.
It’s the upper-class version of Nandos (that could be a catchphrase of sorts for this place). But it has steak on the menu as well.
What stands out is the 100% flame grilled burger for just £2.99.
It’s a slap in the face for Red Iron and Meat & Shake, who serve over priced gourmet burgers. This was equally as tasty, but at third of the price!
Okay so one of the Lions had the gall to add Peri-Peri sauce. What you get is a lot of beef for your buck including cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and burger sauce.
The bun could have been cooked more; it was practically breaking apart, but that’s more a technicality than anything else.
Ideally, it lacked taste (nothing smoky or BBQ-ey about it). The meat was a little dry, but not over cooked, indicating that it was cooked on the flame.
This chicken wrap @ £4 (take away) was very nice with lashings of sauce.
Not sure why it’s a quid more than the burger though! Oh well.
The above was bought at the Langley branch. The lamb burger was better than the beef burger.
The chicken, however, was terrible. No taste whatsoever despite asking for hot (chilli hot that is). If anything, it seemed like they’d painted the sauce on after cooking it. Not exactly marinade.
