Texas Roadhouse (Steakhouse) – Dubai
Founded in the U.S. in 1993, and now enjoying success with over 450 restaurants, Dubai’s Texas Roadhouse promises to create, what it calls, “an authentic Texas-style restaurant with the same look, feel and tastes of the local roadhouses”.
Since this chain has, over the years, been named the number one steakhouse in America by consumers, Feed the Lion was looking forward to giving this a proper test drive to see how this fairs in Arab country.
The unique selling point of this restaurant is the option of choosing your own cut of meat from the counter. Let’s just hope everyone knows their cuts!
DRINKS
Despite being a refreshing drink for the summer heat of Dubai, this wasn’t quite as well balanced as it could have been with more lemon needed to counter all that mintiness.
STARTERS
These extra sweet and freshly made bread buns were a great little starter, going really well with the butter dip.
And given the long waiting times, they turned out to be a necessity.
A horrendous salad! This so-called Caesar Salad, which came with the main, was wrong on so many levels. Where to start? Should we start at all? The picture says it all, doesn’t it?
This creamy soup was well seasoned and quite nice given its simplicity. Just be sure, however, to scrape away the hard bits of dried, beef-bacon topping.
MAINS
The steaks come with an assortment of sides made from scratch that include: baked potato, mashed potatoes, steak fries, seasoned rice, house salad, Caesar salad, fresh vegetables, buttered corn, honey glazed carrots, coleslaw, or a cup of soup.
Having opted for Sirloins all round, these steaks were presented to us well done with impressive crosshatch griddle marks across the surface.
Unfortunately, that’s all she wrote with these! Not only was the quality of the meat average at best, but it also lacked seasoning. What is more, had these not been cooked well done, then perhaps they wouldn’t have been so tough in texture. Alas, the option of how we might want these cooked was never presented to us.
That’s not to say that these were inedible. We easily managed to finish these small portions with the well made mash and gravy side. But, would we be rushing back in a hurry for round 2? Not really!
The combination of well seasoned rice and steak didn’t do it for us to be honest.
For us, nothing goes better with a steak than large, chunky fries.
But don’t forget to ask them for sauces since there’s nothing to be had on your table.
An alternative to steak is the premium Smokehouse burger with pieces of mushrooms that didn’t really bring much to this large 8ozer. Perhaps larger slices of mushroom would have been better suited.
The burger lacked those big punchy flavours one would expect from something so big, and desperately needed a sauce to bring all those individual components together into a coherent whole. Despite the patty being served fairly well done, and thus dry in texture, this was still, judging by our yard stick, pretty average, with definite room for improvement.

As such, there's definitely a gap in the market here that's just begging to be filled given the level of attention this particular place receives.
How then to describe Texas Roadhouse? Well, it's more fast food standard than anything else.
